Shareholders and directors of a Cypriot company can be other companies or individuals (both Cypriots and foreigners). Provision of fiduciary services in Cyprus are allowed and regulated, which means that the ultimate beneficial owner of a company can appoint another local company, which is licensed to provide fiduciary services, to be a shareholder and/or a director. Previously, nominee shareholders were allowed to keep the actual UBOs publicly undisclosed, this way giving their customers a certain level of privacy, however, after the implementation of the public UBO register, having a nominee shareholder for privacy reasons is no longer viable. Nevertheless, having a nominee director is still useful - a local director will increase the substance in Cyprus and help navigate through various local requirements.
